Hangar Dance is a 10-minute documentary that offers insight into a unique event sponsored by the Commemorative Air Forces Southern Minnesota Wing. Music is provided by the Roseville Big Band and the event is attended by over 500 dance enthusiasts.
The Commemorative Air Force is a flying museum dedicated to the preservation of aircraft from the World War II era, 1939-1945. A volunteer, nonprofit organization, the Commemorative Air Force relies on membership fees, donations and fundraising efforts to support its activities. The hangar dance is one such fundraising event. In the course of the film, viewers get to meet members of the Commemorative Air Force and learn more about the organization and its activities.
The featured band in the film is the Roseville Big Band, also a volunteer organization. This talented group is led by the inimitable Glen Newton, the Roseville Big Bands director. Newton composed the song, Dance to the Big Band Swing, a signature number of the Roseville Big Band that was recorded live at the hangar dance and is a recurring piece of music throughout the film.
Hangar Dance also presents a cross-section of dance participants, capturing the movement of the dancing and hearing the participants insights on the event, the music, the costuming and more. |
